Engineered Hardwood and Solid Hardwood Flooring

Some people do not consider engineered hardwood a solid hardwood product although the engineered hardwood is composed of wood. The differences between an engineered hardwood and a solid hardwood are mainly its composition, thickness, price and purpose. Engineered hardwood is produced from layers of wood, with lower quality of wood product on the bottom and with better wood product at the surface.

Type of Flooring

Engineered wood has an edge over solid hardwood in terms of some certain aspects of installation. One aspect is that, engineered wood can be refinished and sanded once or twice if necessary. Another positive advantage of an engineered wood over a solid wood is that, solid wood flooring can never be put in a basement, so the engineered wood flooring is a better option.

On the other hand, people sometimes call solid hardwood as real hardwood. As the label suggests, the solid hardwood flooring material is made from real hardwood, produced from timber, and has even composition all throughout the board. There are unlimited advantages and benefits of solid hardwood, from the prestige and the beauty, to the monetary worth added to your home.

Real wood flooring can be either unfinished or pre-finished. With unfinished real wood, refinishing process is needed after the installation procedure. While with pre-finished real wood, after the installation procedure is done, your flooring is ready.

Bamboo flooring

Bamboo flooring is sometimes considered solid hardwood. Although this flooring product is composed mainly of a grass (bamboo) and not a solid hardwood (timber), others still consider it as solid hardwood due to its comparable way of its installation.
